1. MEHRANGARH FORT, JODHPUR

Known to be of more than 500 years old, the majestic Mehrangarh Fort is located in Jodhpur city of Rajasthan. The fort is situated 400 meters above the city and exhibits the monarchy of rulers who held the region for long.
 
There are various palaces that can be found inside the boundary of this fort, which carry their own, unique characters with complex Rajasthani design and cravings. The fortress also has an extensive collection of costumes, paintings, arms and carved rooms that belong the erstwhile royal family.

 

2. RED FORT, DELHI

The Red Fort, which is also called the Lal Qila, was built by one of the most popular Mughal emperors, Shah Jahan. Situated on the banks of Yamuna river, the fortress-palace was designed by architect Ustad Ahmad Lahauri.

The fort termed as the imperial residence of the Mughal emperors from the year 1648 to 1857. It bagged the privilege of royal residence from the well-known Agra Fort when Shah Jahan decided to move his capital from Agra to Delhi. The Red Fort inherited its name from the red-sandstone walls, which make the fort nearly invincible.

 

3. GWALIOR FORT, GWALIOR

Located on a hilltop, the fort is counted among the most stunning forts of India. It is also considered to be one of the most impermeable forts in the nation. Primarily recognized for its magnificent architecture and glorious past, Gwalior Fort is a must-visit attraction when visiting Central India.

Various monuments and engravings inside the fort tell visitors that it has been there since the 6th century. A Huna emperor known as Mihirakula was supposed to rule the fort during that period. Later in the 9th century, Gurjara-Pratiharas took the fort, ruled, and also constructed the Teli Ka Mandir.

 

5. GOLCONDA FORT, HYDERABAD

Located in the western part of Hyderabad city, Golconda Fort lies about 9 km from the Hussain Sagar Lake. It was initially a mud fort under the supremacy of Rajah of Warangal. Later, the fort was reinvigorated between 14th and 17th centuries by the Bahmani Sultans and then the presiding Qutub Shahi dynasty. Golconda was the major capital of the Qutub Shahi kings. The inner part of the fort has ruins of palaces, mosques and a hill top pavilion, which of 130 meters height and enables a bird’s eye view of other nearby standings.

 

6. CHITTORGARH FORT, CHITTORGARH

This fort is located in the Mewar region of Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. The fort was earlier called as Chitrakut and was constructed by the local kind Chitragada Maurya. Going by the old documents, the fort area was developed with Bhima (one of the Pandavas in the Maharabharata epic) hit the ground with force.

In the recently launched movie “Padmavat”, the queen Padmini was shown inside the Chittorgarh Fort, which was conquered by Alauddin Khalji in the 14th century.
