48 Hours Itineraries In Shimla

The former summer capital of the British in India, and the present capital of Himachal Pradesh, Shimla has been blessed with all natural bounties which one can think of. Shimla has got a scenic location, surrounded by green hills with snow capped peaks.

Day 1:

8:00 AM - Start your day by having breakfast at your hotel in Shimla. 

9:00 AM - Head towards Shimla Reserve Forest Sanctuary, which is located around 13 km away from Shimla. You can hire a taxi or take a local bus to reach there.

10:00 AM - Explore the sanctuary and enjoy the scenic beauty of the forest. You can also go for a nature walk or trekking inside the sanctuary.

1:00 PM - Have lunch at a nearby restaurant or pack your own food to have a picnic inside the sanctuary.

2:00 PM - Leave for Chail, which is located around 45 km away from Shimla. You can hire a taxi or take a local bus to reach there.

3:30 PM - Reach Chail and visit the Chail Palace, which was built in the 19th century and offers a stunning view of the surrounding hills.

5:00 PM - Visit the Chail Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to a variety of animals like deer, leopards, and birds.

7:00 PM - Return to Shimla and have dinner at a local restaurant. 

8:30 PM - End your day by strolling on the Mall Road and shopping for souvenirs. 

Day 2:

9:00 AM - Start your day by visiting Christ Church, Shimla. It is one of the oldest churches in North India and is located on The Ridge. You can spend some time admiring the beautiful stained glass windows and the neo-Gothic architecture.

10:30 AM - Next, head to Shri Hanuman Mandir Jakhoo. It is a famous temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman and is located on Jakhoo Hill. You can either take a short trek or hire a pony to reach the temple. 

12:00 PM - After seeking blessings at the temple, you can have lunch at any of the nearby restaurants.

1:00 PM - Post-lunch, visit Viceregal Lodge & Indian Institute of Advanced Study. It is a heritage building that was once the residence of the British Viceroy of India. Today, it houses the Indian Institute of Advanced Study and is open to visitors.

3:00 PM - Finally, you can end your day by exploring the local markets and shopping for souvenirs.

5:00 PM - Depart from Shimla with fond memories of your trip.
