Since ages, India is known to have the largest section of poor and vulnerable people in the world for whom world-class healthcare is a distant dream. To meet healthcare accessible to the deprived sections of the society, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched its highly ambitious national health program – Ayushman Bharat.The world’s biggest healthcare scheme was tossed on 23rd September 2018 by PM Modi in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. It became effective on 25th September, which also marks the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya.

Ayushman Bharat or “Healthy India” is basically a nation-wide program launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of National Health Policy 2017. The primary objective behind this launch is to meet the vision of Universal Health Coverage (UHC). This program has been designed on the concept to meet SDG and its underscoring promise, which includes “leave no one behind”.

Ayushman Bharat can also be referred to as an effort to shift from sectoral and segmented way of health service delivery to a complete need-based health care service. Ayushman Bharat endeavors to commence groundbreaking interferences to all-inclusively address health (casing prevention, promotion, and ambulatory care), at primary, secondary and tertiary levels.

 

# Ayushman Bharat Yojana

Ayushman Bharat or “Healthy India” is a national initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of National Health Policy 2017, in order to achieve the vision of Universal Health Coverage (UHC). This initiative has been designed on the lines as to meet SDG and its underlining commitment, which is “leave no one behind”.

AyushmanBharat is an attempt to move from sectoral and segmented approach of health service delivery to a comprehensive need-based health care service. Ayushman Bharat aims to undertake path-breaking interventions to holistically address health (covering prevention, promotion and ambulatory care), at primary, secondary and tertiary levels.

Ayushman Bharat program relies on a band of care concept, encompassing two inter-connected mechanisms, which are

  1. Establishment of Health and Wellness Centres
  2. Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY)

Establishment of Health and Wellness Centres–The first & foremost component, relates to the development of 1,50,000 Health and Wellness Centres which aim to make health care accessible to most people. These centers will deliver Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC), including both maternal and child health services and non-transferable diseases, including free important drugs and diagnostic services.

Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) –PM-JAY is one major step towards meeting the goal of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and Sustainable Development Goal - 3 (SDG3).It is projected to give health protection cover to poor and susceptible families against monetary danger emerging due to disastrous health incidents.

The scheme is developed to be self-motivated and ambitious and it would consider any further changes in the barring/ inclusion/ deprivation/ occupational standards in the SECC records.
