In today’s fast-paced world, people work day and night just to earn money to make their lives a fruitful one. Though there is nothing harm in going this way, this excessive workload on our body and mind takes a toll on our health. And when it comes to seeking the best available treatment at the most competitive rates, India emerges out as the most preferred destination.

Among various industries of India, the medical tourism industry in the nation has shown some excellent signs of growth in recent times. Medical tourism is all set to become the next big foreign exchange aggregator for the country due to an increasing influx of foreign patients. Medical tourism, which is thought to be the next driver for Indian healthcare growth, is considered as one of the rapidly growing sections in marketing ‘Destination India’ at present. India with next-gen healthcare services combined with superior levels of compassion has become a paradise for medical tourists.

The success of medical tourism in India can be understood from the fact that the country has transformed itself into a medical outsourcing agent where subcontractors are providing services to the heavily-loaded healthcare systems in western countries.

The foremost reason for India’s emergence as a preferred destination is the intrinsic advantage of its healthcare amenities. Today Indian healthcare is professed to be on par with worldwide standards. Some of the top Indian hospitals and doctors have a strong international reputation. But the most crucial aspect that brings medical tourism to India is its low-cost advantage and chivalrous services.

According to a recent study done by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), India is unique in itself as it offers all-inclusive medicinal services. With a wide range of services around the concepts like yoga, meditation, Ayurveda, allopathy, and other disciplines of medicines, India offers a distinctive pool of services to a person that is hard to match by other destinations.

Besides, clinical results in India are at par with the world’s best avenues, along with having globally certified and experienced medical experts.

As per a report with the title ‘India: Building Best Practices in Healthcare Services Globally 2019’, the country is considered one of the most preferred destinations for MVT, holding the fifth position among 41 major medical tourism destinations as per Medical Tourism Index Overall ranking, 2016.

Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Kolkata are the most sought after destination cities for medical travelers coming to India. Around 27 percent of India's medical tourists move to Maharashtra, out of which 80 percent go to Mumbai. Chennai gets almost 15 percent of the influx of foreign patients while Kerala manages around 5 percent to 7 percent.

According to the latest report, India welcomes nearly 5 lakh medical value travelers every year from various source countries. Major markets for India are the South-East Asian nations, the Middle-East, Africa and SAARC countries. Over 50 percent of medical travelers coming into India are from Bangladesh.

# Why India is the best choice?

Reasonable treatment cost of treatment is a major aspect that gives India an edge in the list of destination cities among medical travelers. In comparison to medical care and treatment in the Western nations, patients can choose to save up to as much as 50 percent. For a foreign patient needing treatment in India, regular travel costs would account for around $31, as compared to the $223 in the US, a whopping saving!

India has almost 38 hospitals certified by the Joint Commission International (JCI), which is thought to be a top-rated authority on global health care practices. It also has 619 hospitals qualified by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH). Moreover, the post-operative mortality rate in India is nearly 1.4 percent as compared to 1.9 percent in places like the US.

In addition to the given factors, India has a wide range of tourist attractions, thereby promoting medical-related travel. It, therefore, gives a package that encompasses quality healthcare services, combined with the option to discover a large number of tourist attractions across the nation.
